Hi. I’m Holly and Mimi’s daughter. And just like my Mom, I enjoy learning how to do new things  on my computer and the Internet. Being the Editor of two Mom’s Club newsletters motivates you to become computer literate. I am also studying for my Masters in Education. But I have been a PC gal all my life. So when the discussion came up about starting the new Mac Place Department, I rushed to the front of the line and said, "I want to lead that charge!"

I am very enthusiastic about what my Mom and Dad are doing with Computer School for Seniors. And I sincerely want to be a part of it. I also love my new Mac. The approach I am taking is that as I learn all the fabulous things a Mac can do, I am immediately going to share them with you. We’ll learn together. How cool is that! I’ll start from taking it out of the box to setting it up to learning about the Desktop and everything else associated with a Mac.

As we learn together, I have made arrangements to have some Mac experts available who I can turn to in case I find something I don’t understand or if you ask a question I can’t answer.

This is going to be fun and very beneficial for both of us. So if you are into computers via a Mac, enroll and email me to let me know where you are on your learning journey. I’m looking forward to hearing from you at the Mac Place on campus.

While teaching  at Richland College, I had the privlege of teaching new computer skills to doctors, lawyers and even a college dean.  I had one senior student who had won three television Emmys. He brought one to class one day to everyone’s delight. Despite their different life experiences, seniors have a collective attitude of “we should never stop learning.”  The world of continuing education may best illustrate the huge appetite of a generation that loves to learn and grow.

When we first started our campus, I  picked out the best PC based Lesson Plans I had because that is what I had been learning and teaching about for the last eight years…   ”PC based Lesson Plans.”

It didn’t take long to discover that there is another important orientation out there…Mac users…who also want some help with their Mac computers.  I realized that it was time for me to practice what I preach and start learning about the Apple world so I could create a Mac Department on campus.

My Daughter Holly, who is very PC computer literate and is studying for her Master’s Degree in Education, saw this as an opportunity to fulfill a desire to learn how to use a Mac while using her teaching skills at the same time. As a result, we now have a new Faculty Member and a new Department to brag about… The Mac Place.

Welcome Mac users!

I’m convinced this is a Department that will continue to grow and become more popular as more seniors discover the simplicity of the Mac.

Here’s a sample of what you will currently find:

  • The Desktop
  • Finder
  • Mac
  • Mail
  • Safari
  • iChat

So in answer to many inquiries, "Yes, we do have something for Mac users. Welcome to our campus."
