Learning Computer Tricks Just Got Easier For Seniors. That’s Senior Citizens.
by Mechelle Jordan, CBS TV 19, Longview, TX

Mechelle JordanA new virtual campus is up and running…just for them. Computers have been Greek for many older adults. But now, navigating around them can be as simple as pie. 82-year old Paul Yowell is enjoying every click of his mouse.

He’s a student of Computer School for Seniors. The new site teaches the basics of using the computer including how to set up an email account or write a letter using Microsoft Word.

Yowell says: "I write letters so much better and I enjoy doing it. There’s two ways to do something. Barely trying to and afraid you’re going to make a mistake. Or feeling comfortable and going ahead and doing it and looking back and saying that was fun."

Mimi Witcher, the Founder of the virtual school is a senior herself who took a computer course at a Dallas Community College and ultimately began teaching the course there.

Now she’s helping folks like Yowell overcome their fears of this machine…while learning something new at the same time.
